I have a chance to purchase a bulk roll of this film.My stock material is Tri-X. Just wondering if there are any apx 100 shooters out there and how they like this film.

I only used a few rolls of APX100 135 in D76 and I loved it. But went I decided to buy some 120 rolls AGFA went out of business.

While Agfa is "out of business" so to speak, there is still plenty of APX 100 around, at least in 35mm size. Still stocks of 120 also from some vendors.

Arista II at Freestyle is apparently the same stuff. Same price and I know they ship to Canada.

Hey Mike, for EI 100 try Rodinal 1:50 for 13 min. (condensor enlarger) and 15 min. (diffusion enlarger)

APX 100 is sharp

I shot a roll of 35mm APX 100 in an Olympus Pen 1/2 frame camera, and even that tiny little negative was pretty sharp @5x7 print size. I developed in D-76 1:1 and it was gorgeous

I checked out that ebay link Jim and by the time it reaches my mail box the cost would run around 60-65 bones. I'm getting it for $35.00 delivered. But I thank you for the link.
One can never have too much information.

I thought the postage might be a bit much, but nothing ventured....

BTW, I will really miss APX 100 when my stock is gone. It's good in 35 (D-76, 1+0) but really shines in medium format (Rodinal 1+50). I never got to use it in LF. Shame it's almost gone, the midtones of this film were the best I've ever seen and it gave me great results in every dev I tried with it: the above, D2D, PMK, WD2D+, HC-110, and Microdol-X.

This is really a wonderful film with its own characteristics. I like it with Rodinal, although my next roll will be souped in Adox ATM-49 (the old Atomal formula).

As much as I like it, I've found Ilford FP4 to be a nice alternative/replacement.

One of the nice things about film is that each type is unique, and I don't have to find a software trick to replicate it.

I've never used it in 35mm, only 120 and LF!

I admit that I prefer FP4+ for outdoor use - it has a reduced blue-sensitivity almost like a built-in light yellow filter. One less thing to think about.

But APX100 is a really great film.

Jim, I used APX through the entire 90's almost in LF. It was my favorite film. I tried other but never used them. It's hard to say what film is better than another, when you have one reason someone else will contradict it something else. What I can say is that in all the years I used it, I was never disappointed with my results. For the better part of ten years I used APX 100 and printed with Zone VI VC (mostly, graded some) and the results were pretty good. Last night I actually checked a couple of prints I made with APX and ZVI with a densitometer and the DMax was 2.0 as compared to a rebranded Foma VCFB which when I exposed it a bare lightbulb and developed for 4 minutes the best I could get was 1.40! I also checked a piece of Foma RC which I did get 1.5. Who would have ever thought rc would get a better DMax then fb?? Not me.
