I have aquired an agfa 'universal' camera that needs some work. It looks like the brake for the rear rail was replaced with something bogus. Does anyone know what this is supposed to look like?

I am also thinking about getting rid of the bump on the corners so I can put a full ground glass in. Would it be possible to shave these out with a chisel? Anyone else have some good mods for this camera?

If you would like detailed pictures, let me know what you need and I'll take them for you. Mine is original right down to the red leather bellows as far as I know. To make the photos correct for you, maybe you could take small pic's of what you want and I'll do the same views in hi-res digital.

The cutouts in the corners help to vent air when opening and closing the camera and also allow for some ventilation to remove moisture etc. Personally I'd leave then there.

cheers

Thanks for the photo!

1. is missing and someone put a screw arrangement that is going to damage the extension over time. I would like to know whats in there so i can find something good to improvise with.

2. they removed the inner brass friction piece and put some big aluminum piece instead. I guess they were trying to increase the amount of tilt. I guess I can live with it but it looks gastly.

3. I would like to chisel these out and put a full GG in. Many people like to use the entire surface of the GG and you can deaal with trapped air simply by lifting the back a bit when you compress it.

wfwhitaker, who did your bellows for you?

The cutouts are also useful for checking if there is any physical vignetting from the lens/bellows. I would recommend leaving them.
