Agfa 8 anyone care to share their experiences?

Just because I have got some glycin I thought I would try mixing up a batch of Agfa 8 film dev. Has anyone tried this dev and what are your experiences? Sample photographs with developing info much apreciated.

I've tried most of the glycin devs., including Agfa 8, Edwal 12, 777, etc., and I haven't been able to get the magic out of them that others report.

I have mixed these devs correctly, followed times found on APUG and at other sources, but my highlights keep buring out. I've tried cutting back on times and/or number of inversions, but to find no improvement.

I'm saving my glycin for Ansco 130, a print dev., where I think it really shines.

Now, just because these glycin devs haven't worked for me doesn't mean the same for you.

I believe Tom Hoskinson is an Agfa 8 user; take all the advice he can give you.

Agfa 8 is clean working and gives accutance similar to Rodinal. Superb midtones, and an excellent portrait developer. It's recommended to expose one stop more and adjust the developing time accordingly.

Here's a simple portrait. Pre-war Rolleiflex Automat with Tessar, f:4. Rolleisoft 1 and light green filter. Agfa APX25 at 12 ASA, developed in Agfa 8. Emaks K883 paper, Ansco 130 full strength. Kodak Sepia Toner.

Well said, JPD! I love Agfa 8 as a portrait developer. BTW, I also use it as a Stand and Semi-Stand developer

Tom,would you like to share your semi stand film developing time/agitation routine for any of the films you use with Agfa 8?

Btw, you can make a strong stock solution and then dilute before use. It will keep longer and you will not have to mix more so often.
