CORRECTED

AGFA

304 Rapid Fixer

Water ------------------------------ 800ml
Sodium Thiosulphate --------==----200g
Ammonium chloride ----------------50g
Potassium metabisulphite ----------20g
Water enough to make up to 1 Litre

305 Hardening Fixer

Water ------------------------------800ml
Sodium Thiosulphate ---------------200g
Sodium sulphite (anhyd)----------- 20g
Acetic acid (glacial) ----------------15ml
Potassium Alum (dodecahydrate)--10g
Water enough to make up to 1 Litre

You need to clarify the form of Sulphite, it's anhydrous in these formulae (wasserfrei). Also Agfa 305 contains 200gm Sodium Thiosulphate and 15ml Glacial acetic acid - Eisessig 15ml, and Potassium Alum not Potassium Metabisulphite.

Agfa 304 is a Rapid fixer while 305 a regular Sodium Thiosulphate hardening fixer

Source- various Agfa and Orwo Rezepte books of formulae).

It's working strenght Bob. I have been using this one for the last two years, I'd run out of Hypam and it was a holiday and I had the raw chemistry. Seems to work well, I use it two bath for papers.

thanks Ian
so for me I just multiply by 20 each component and I am good to go.

I'd test it well first :D make sure it's Ok for your usage. I'd prefer to buy Ammonium Thiosulphte rather than add Ammoniun Chloride to Sodium Thiosulphate to form it, this formula is quite old and before Ammonium Thiosulphate began being produced at a reasonable cost, it was once uneconomic.

I will follow your lead and try it with Ammonium Thiosulphte, if so what am I looking at as components for a 1 litre working solution.? You know I am absolutely daft.

HI Ian yes updated versions I guess, thank you for the corrections.

The 304 was from Agfa book and 305 from the Gevaert book 1938.

Ian I have followed quite a few of your posts and realise your quite an authoritative and knowledgeable person with photographic chemicals. I need to pick your brains, but will send you a PM. :D
