A neighbor brought by a photograph a couple years ago wondering if I could clean it up for her. It was so yellowed I didn't realize it had "color" until I scanned it and adjusted the levels. I was able to get, I think, a nice result that pleased her, but I've been wondering about the original. I'm assuming a hand-colored photo, but really have no idea. Can someone tell me the process and a rough age on pictures such as this?

Beautiful image and really nice restoration!

I don’t want to guess but it could be a “protective varnish” that has darkened over the years.

Depending 'somewhat' on the age of the print It might/could(?) be a print made using one of the (so called) "Archaic print processes from the late 1800s... like VDB ??
