Started shooting black and white back in December (always shot colour negs before), and I've finally got some ok negatives (to my eyes). I seem to be really slow compared to most, but I just couldn't get anything to expose/develop properly before. But it was such a pleasure seeing these negs drying out, realizing I'd finally found a way of shooting that gave results I was happy with. It's just a neg scan that I've attached, but an enlarger is next on the list. The way I figured it was there's no point printing until I was happy with the negatives. It's 35mm Acros in HC-110(H). The subject is Whitby Abbey. I don't care so much about sharpness and so on, more about the overall feel of the picture, so that combination seemed quite good.

Just had to post, since I was about ready to give up out of frustration. The only downside is a large scratch across the lower third, which is on some of the other pictures on this roll as well. Is there a way to remove this on a print?

That's a really nice shot. I'd love to get a pic like that every four months

When I scan, I occasionally get a line like the one in your neg (but purple). I've always assumed it was a scanner glitch because of the odd color and because it seemed to run in the direction of the scanning path. One suggestion (assuming you can't see the line on the negative itself) would be to re-scan with the neg facing the other way. If the line moves to the top or goes away, you have a scanner issue.

Thanks for the comments. I've got a few pictures on this roll that I'm going to try printing, hopefully.

The scratch does seem to be on the negative unfortunately. Might be right about the camera causing it. When I bought the camera (leicaflex sl) I didn't get it cla'd.

Excellent work. I would love to be able to take photos like that. And I'm glad you didn't give up. Me? I'm too stupid to know when to stop generally - that's why I still shoot film! well, only partly why. But really, it's good you stuck with it until you found what works for you.

Oh... that's really nice! I love the spooky way the clouds are behind the building

Yeah, if only I had all this sorted out when I was last in Transylvania, it would have made a nice vampire themed project!
