AE-1: white stains in the back of the mirror

Should i be concerned about this? I often wonder if this has anything to do with the "distortion" (lack of a better word) in photos or if its the seals that i am about to replace

No. The back of the mirror has no affect on your images. The front of the mirror doesn't either, for that matter.

A large light colored blotch might cause flare, but that sort of damage? Not likely! I'd think that carefully applied flat black paint would fix the problem.

No harm by any means.

IF you still feel irritated, brush-of the padding with a hard brush. It just is velvet where debris/fibers can adhere too.
