Advice sought on 5x4 sheet processing

I plan to use tanks for fixing and wash cycles. I have a tank with floating lid. Any tips about the mix ratio and how many weeks/sheets the chemistry is good for if I keep the lid on and the tank stored in cool dark location?

It will depend on the developer and whether you replenish it. If you replenish XTol and use it fairly frequently it should be good for a year or more.

Im using one shot developer so my question is about fixer only. :rolleyes:

Full strength solutions would be best, along with replenishment. Cool and dark don't matter so much as excluding air (which the floating lid will do). For the Kodak or Ilford chemistry, complete details of how many sheets, how long, recommended replenishment are in the data sheets available on their respective websites.

As it's just fix you're worried about, that info is in the datasheets too, and there are numerous long threads in here about testing fix, etc.

Again, that depends on the fixer, and how often(and how many sheets)you use it. Read the manufacturers data sheet, and see how many rolls or sheets of film is recommended for the quantity and dilution you are using. For wash, are you refering to wash water, or HCA. Wash water should be changed frequently. HCA is good for repeated use, use a test solution to determine if it is degraded(same with fixer).

I was referring to water and was planning just to leave the water running like in a wash bath. I havent heard of HCA but Ill look into that.

There are even longer threads about washing, than fixing and more passionate too. I use 20 minutes of running water, works good.
There are 41K members here, which is good for about 82K worth of opinions on how long film or paper should be washed, in what sort of water, whether or not to use HCA and god knows what else.

Read, study, pick a scheme that seems to make sense, and fits your circumstances and do that. You'll know in sometime between about 5 and 30 years how well it works.
