I am moving into digital photography in a slightly more serious level from point and shoot snaps. I've had trouble with the never ending hurdles the technology created because of my low level of computer savy.

I am planning to shoot on my Oly 410. I use it like a P&S with a viewfinder. I will soon upgrade to a E-620 as prices locally are plummeting for original 4/3 systems. My output will be geared to JPEG only, with limited post production adjustments, for this system. I will use my supplied Olympus software, I own it and money is always tight. My Oly generates amazing color Jpeg pictures. My final product will be for the usual internet emails and photo forum displays.

I also want to set-up and print outstanding 5X7 prints for memorable pictures. I must admit to enjoying a pretty picture in my hands. I also shoot film on my Oly OM-1n's cameras, moving to B&W for personal expression ( if we don't shoot film it will disappear to the museums).

1- Will a current generation Macbook Pro 13" meet my needs, double duty with travelling sales, like to work on pictures when stuck in motel rooms, more fun than porn!
2- Can the small Macbook screen be calibrated?
3- I have a Canon MP530 general duty printer, enough for now, i've been reading about archival inks but they seem like thousands by the gallon.
4- What peripherals are must have for workstation at home, slide and negative scanning?, external storage, any suggestions to a raw newcomer to digital?

I realize I'm asking a lot but as the thread develops I'm hoping other baffled lurkers might get some inspiration. A simple digital workstation and workflow is very complicated to many of us.

Hi,

IMHO a 15" is a must at least for editing your photos, anyway yes the current 13" models can run Adobe CS4 - CS5 with no problem, the weakest point is the screen size..

I dont know about calibration if its possible on that MB Pro 13" someone Im sure will help you out with the answer.

For scanning & negatives i would go for a not extremely expensive Epson V700 or v750 Pro or Canon 9000 scanner ...they both scan photos and negatives upto highest dpi quality
