Advice Needed - Expired Slide Film in Holga

Hello all!

I've come into a few boxes of expired slide film. Fujichrome 100 (2017), Fujichrome 400 (undated) and Ektachrome 100 Plus (2003).

We all know slide film can be pretty finicky. Even more so when it's out of date. And even more more so when using a plastic fantastic.

Anyone have any advice on shooting expired slide film in the Holga? After shooting, should I develop cross-processed, just to salvage what may or may not be there?

i primarily shoot in B&W, so I'm not looking to use the slide film for my serious work. I'm just looking to have fun.

I had some expired Ektachrome from 1999 and I just threw it away. When you figure the cost of processing and slide mounts, it is not worth it.

2017 is very recent.

Since you’re not expecting perfect results anyway, go out and have fun.
You will need to constrain your shots to light conditions that match the settings available on the camera. Slide film is a little more forgiving with slight under exposure than over. If you won’t be projecting the slides there is no need to get them mounted. I don’t know if cross processing it will give you more latitude, I expect it would, but I’ve not done much with cross processed E-6
I would probably rate the film at box speed and go for it. Finding a lab to process it may be the biggest challenge, but if you are up for doing it yourself, kits are available.

the 2017 is recent, as said, so just shoot it and try to be as close to correct exposure times as you could. try to find out about the undated fujichrome by comparing the boxes or packs to pictures on google. for the 2003 expose it as 80 ISO. I shoot 2000 slide film by this way for stereoscopes at the moment and it comes out perfect. just processed the normal way.

I suppose 1999 would come out the same. so what a waste to throw it away...

Sell it on Ebay for a small fortune. Let somebody else make all the mistakes. Buy fresh film with the proceeds and spend the rest on good wine or vintage coffee. Life is too short for this sort of angst...

Been there with some 5-year old expired Velvia in a Holga - like others have said, since its in a Holga and not going to be serious work - just shoot it. I'd probably rate it 1 stop slower.

If you have some E6 chems its going to be best if developed that way, if not, cross process it in C41 chems and roll with it.
