Adox Variotone--A NEW B&W paper

Freestyle has tons of Moersch stuff listed in their 'What's New' section.

I called Freestyle couple of weeks ago & salesperson said they are just waiting for ship's arrival. Surprised it didn't land concurrent with Moersch products.

Got my first package of Adox Variotone this week and compared it to MG WT FB (my standard paper). My normal developer is Ethol LPD at 1:2 at 2 minutes at around 72 degrees. I do not tone my prints. I was hoping for a paper with a warmer tone than the MG WT(Boy do I miss the old Portriga Rapid 111) but I found that the paper with the exception of the white paper base appeared to be an almost exact clone of the MG WT. The images have a slightly cooler look to them as compared to the MG WT which I attribute to the pure white base. I understand that the Vario is made specifically for toning so for those who do tone this paper may just what they're looking for. Print sharpness appears to equal to that of the same images printed on MG.

worked through the last of our stash of
this paper this week. We gave the Adox
Variotone glossy paper a try as we were
printing out the last of the Agfa and were
astounded to find a paper that looks an
awful lot like the old MCC 111, except
with a slightly heavier paper and a whiter
base.

I know Adox is bringing back MCC 111
-- I am wondering whether the Variotone
is coated with the same emulsion recipe
as the old Agfa paper.

For the first time, we have located a
paper that offers the same qualities that
brought us to MCC 111 years ago.

More seriously thats useful information, MCC was ny main paper & I switched to Polywarmtone. I'll try the the Adox paper and also the Ilford Warmtone which is now on a whiter base too.

Yes, that is indeed useful information. I really liked Agfa MCC 111, and even though I usually print on graded paper nowadays I think I’ll buy some Variotone next time I’m in Berlin.

The new Ilford WT in Ansco 130 with the bromide replaced by 15cc 1% benzotriazole solution/liter (1+3) is really lovely. It tones well in selenium (KRST 1+9) going barely warm in tone...Evan Clarke

Received a box of the new paper from Freestyle, and did some printing this morning. After doing a test print, I increased contrast to about 2.5 using settings on my Durst colorhead comparable to Ilfords MG filters. Developed in PF130 for about 3 mins at 70 degrees. I did same negative in Slavich Unibrom and the warmth of the Adox paper was readily apparent. Its similar in tone to Fortezo, but with better clarity. For the past several years I've only used graded papers, but this paper will be the exception. Now if I could only get it in 12X16 as well as the other sizes.

Good news if this new WT paper has a white base. I would like to see a paper with higher contrast in the low to mid tones that split tones in selenium. Hope this paper initially cools down with selenium similar to Forte PolyWarmtone Plus.
