Just ordered a bottle of Adox Rodinal from Freestyle Photo! Considering it’s been on back order for months in the U.S.,I was surprised when It showed it was available for order. Ground shipping only. Hopefully, they have more than one bottle.
It is listed as a limited quantity product.

Thanks for the head's up. I had signed up to be notified when it was back in stock but didn't receive anything. I've got a couple of bottles already, but grabbed another one. Hopefully it lasts as long as they say.

The Photrio members will probably clean out the stock before they ever get a chance to send out the “Now Available” emails.

Thanks for that, I just ordered some. I just noticed I was running low but didn’t realize it was in short supply.

Somewhat off topic, but if there's another shortage, and just in case, is it possible to mix up the developer from scratch and get the same thing as what's in that Adox bottle? I know there's different formulas for Rodinal, just wondering if one would be close enough to the stuff that's available now?

There are other Rodinal clones not just the Adox stuff I think. I have never used the others but am interested if they yield same results.

Has anyone done close comparisons of Adox Rodinal and Rollei R09? I've read opinions about this but no descriptive or definitive comparisons.
I've used the Rollei R09 a couple of times with Tri-x, and noticed a distinct difference when comparing to Tri-x with Rodinal shot and processed in the 70's. Some of this is probably due to the differences in Tri-x today vs then, but I'm curious about the two developers.

I am worried about the shelf life of it. I had a bottle of Rollei R09 concentration. Opened it in October 2013, and used it occasionally. In July 2016, the last time I used it, it went bad and I got four rolls of blank films. My logs showed that it lasted for about 2 full years since the bottle had been opened. What about Adox Rodinal? On the other hand, a bottle of HC-110 lasted me for over a decade without any issues.

As someone who has been happy using Rollei R09, is there any reason to buy the "original" Rodinal over one of its clones? I guess its cheaper?

According to Adox via Freestyle, it's said to give slightly finer grain than R09 with the same acutance enhancement. Also, given it's specifically made to the 2004 Agfa formula (they say) it ought to have the same kind of shelf life as the last generation of genuine Agfa Rodinal.

Just got email from Freestyle that Rodinal is back in stock - now that Photrio members have probably cleaned it all out

I thought everyone had a 72 year old bottle of Rodinal hanging around that they found in the studs of grandpa’s old garage? I mean that’s what I always seem to see posted on the internet. Well my bottle of ADOX Rodinal is only about 6 or 7 years old and at 1+50 I’ve barely made a dent in it. Used it today on some tri-x and it’s as good as when I first opened it.

I was happy with R09 until I wasn't. Got a blank roll "only" about 3 years after opening the bottle.

And, no, it wasn't "fixer first" situation. R09 was dead.

I have heard stories of some of the Rodinal clones suddenly giving out with no warning. I just replaced my bottle of R09 with a fresh one. The old one was almost out and the bottle was starting to get nasty. The stuff is pretty cheap for the amount of film I was able to develop out of it so I don't feel too bad about replacing it before it runs dry.

Yep, I've had a few cases of it on back order and got a shipment notification yesterday. It's a pretty brisk mover, so hopefully they got enough in stock to keep things flowing for a while. I know I'll be moving at least a couple cases a month.

Thanks for the heads-up OP. I’ve been wanting to try this. Ordered a bottle and some film while I was at it.

Received my 2 bottles from Freestyle yesterday.
Life is good.

Got mine too, and a bunch of film.

Nice to live in the same state as Freestyle. Even with the ground shipping requirements of liquid chemistry like Rodinal, the stuff still arrives here in two days.

Every Rodinal fan owes himself to try Ilfosol 3. It doesn't keep as well, but makes up for it where it counts. I can't guarantee that you'll like it, but many of you might.
