From J&C : "ADOX Ortho film is a new 35mm ortho film with a ISO of 25. It will be available in August."

Whoo-hoo! Since J&C stopped carrying rebranded Maco Ortho in 35mm, I was sorry to lose my only ortho choice. I had finally found good developing times and agitation, but now I can keep shooting ortho!

Patrick, I've been using the Maco film as a general continuous-tone film, you can see at least one example in my personal gallery. I expose at EI 25, develop in Rodinal 1+100 for 11 minutes, five VERY gentle agitation each minute. It builds contrast pretty quickly, but with care it will give very fine-grained, incredibely sharp, and tonally gorgeous negatives. I shot still objects, but I also did two portraits and they came out very nicely.

I have printed at least half a dozen pictures, but because I don't have a scanner at home I must go into school to do so. I will try to make an effort and scan some soon. The result is really seductive. I don't use the film because of any practical advantage (it's a b*tch to load in a camera because of the polyester base), but because the result is so nice and unique.

Jim Galli just recently used Arista APHS as a continuous tone film and made a thread about it. His negs are in 8x10, but the general tonality looks like what I have. Of course, on a monitor everything looks the same, and I won't bet that my prints would resemble his, but the general mood of ortho film is peculiar and distinctive.

Patrick, a nod about two photos I uploaded in my gallery (tomb and hydrant), taken with Maco Ortho film. I think they really show what I like about that film, and what it does to your subject.
