Hi All,

I picked up a couple of rolls of the ADOX ORTHO 25 (Orthochromatic) and am looking for extra contrast and moderate grain.

My idea was to rate at ISO 16 (it can be rated at 16-25 ISO) and develop in Rodinal, according to the MDC:

Adox ORT 25 Rodinal 1+50 ISO25 10MIN 21C

The MDC do not show any options for rating at ISO16, so I thought this would be my best bet, together with some extra agitation for contrast. Any thoughts on this? Would this be a good start?

Thanks.

I use HC110 for this film, you need to play with the dilutions to find your sweet spot.

At what speed do shoot this film and which dilution/time do you use? I have HC-110, maybe your recipe would be a good starting point. And after that I can mess around a bit with filters and stuff to (if needed) increase the contrast.

Thanks.

I am using this for a commercial purpose that uses laser exposure so my dilutions would not be appropriate .
HC110 is a very good developer for different purposes and contrast change so you need to dig a bit deeper into what you want to achieve and test .

OK, let me just use the both options (HC-110 and Rodinal) as per MDC and use that as a starting point. Thanks.

What I did was following:

Took my Cambo wide on 58mm SK Super Angulon XL and rolled a 6x9 format 120, shot at f16: iso16, iso20 and iso 25.

Then I took 1:100 HC-110 and mixed with 1:100 Rodinal in a 500ml reel and developed for 8min.

Always difficult to judge the negative, but seems like the iso16 one has excellent contrast and still some shadow detail. Will post the result after the scans.

Have done some test with ortho film (135, Fotokemika, 25 ASA) Rodinal vs. Pota and since than using Pota.
It's easy to mix Pota, you need only Phenidone 1,5 grams and Sodium Sulfite 30 grams.Fresh Pota stay over night to cool down.Put some lighter gas in bottle (just in case ).
1.Presoak film about 2 min. with 3x changing water or until water is no colored.
2.Developing film about 12 min. 7-8 twists ( - clock +) for a first minute than 2 twist (- clock +) every 2 min.
That works for this film, maybe will do with Adox.

And,yes contrast is much better with Pota.

Here's my result, the 'spots' are from calcium, next time I need calciumfree water through the whole proces.

@FRANOL, what is Pota exactly? Is that Phenidone + Sodium Sulfite ?

hi

if you want even more contrast try the orthofilm with rodinal 1+10 develop for 5min @ 20 degrees celsius and shoot it at 25iso - this will give you a very highcontrast picture with almost no grey - pure black and white
it would look something like the picture i added

i took this photo with the maco/rollei ortho 25 but i tried the adox aswell
both are very similar with this development

"This developer is designed to record nuclear blasts. It is capable to recording light over 20-stop range."-The Darkroom Cookbook,S. Anchell.

Yes, it's only Phenidone 1,5 grams and Sodium Sulfite 30,0 grams for 1 liter.Use undiluted.I just decant Phenidone with boiling water and stirring until is dissolved than add Sodium Sulfite and stirring until is dissolved than add water to 1 liter. It's not by book (first Sodium Sulfite than Phenidone ) but it works.Didn't make test but I always use Pota inside 24 hours (gas in the bottle ) and works great.

I got in contact with a guy that uses phenidone and he said it is not a good choice for extra contrast, it's easier to get this result with either Rodinal or HC-110.

@belichten, I like the contrast, let me shoot another roll and try your recipe as a starting point. Thanks.
