ADOX Ortho 25 and Rodinal

Hi, I just received some Adox Ortho 25 from Retro photographic in the UK, I shot some tests and processed in Rodinal 1+50, however I seem to have the imprint of the symbols from the backing paper on the negative, they are black and sometimes clearly visible, how can this be? The film is not fogged in any way, which suggests to me that it has not received light prior to shooting and it has been ina dark fridge for a week prior to processing.

Any ideas?
I may shoot another roll to see if the problem persists.

This sounds to me that the film is old. I've seen this problem before with out dated Agfapan and Ilford PanF.

This once happened to me with some Agfa APX25 film. It really ticked me off, because of how rare that film is to get hold of, plus I was on a dedicated photo trip.

I believe it is chemical fogging from the ink they use to print on the paper backing, and there is nothing you can do about it.

I tried developing the film in Pyrocat, Xtol, and Rodinal. Same results. Presoak did not help either. You might as well return the film for a refund and purchase new. It is disheartening, but better than ruining a shoot.

Hi All,

So I ran another test and I have the same thing, I was wondering if anyone here had dealt with Retrophotographic in the UK? I purchased the film from them and have several e-mail contacts with them, initally they were quite helpful, but I have now asked several times where I should send the film and have had no response, seems a little strange to me. There is an address on the webpage, but because of the lack of contact I am loath to send the film to this address in case they just say "dunno what this is about!"

I will endeavour to call them tonight, but the Time difference between NZ and the UK make slife a bit tough!

Good luck with it! It's not right to treat customers that way. I think if you order from Freestyle in California they ask questions but usually replace film without 'haggling' first. Sorry to hear about your experience with them.
