Hi guys,

Does any of you have any experience with Adox Nuance?
How does it compare to Variotone?

Thank you.

Hello Vlad,

I've been using the Adox Nuance a bit lately and like it very much. It is a very rich paper on a bright white base and, developed in a PQ developer with just a bit of benzotriazole, still has a bit of a warm image tone, but only just a bit.

It has a very smooth look, with lots of separation in the mid tones, not harsh or gritty at all. It tones extremely quickly in selenium, so I use a fairly weak dilution to give it just a hint of purplish-brown. Leaving it in a bit longer can give a tone reminiscent of old POP. I like it's image tone a lot.

It's a graded paper (as you know), and responds rather well to split developing techniques to achieve intermediate contrast.

Hope this helps,

It will be a paper I use a lot (I like the idea of no brighteners too).

Best,

That's great.
I was looking for a graded paper and came across the description of the Nuance on the Adox web site, which sounded very appealing. But I was hoping to also hear from someone who has actually used it. I'm glad to hear that it's as good in practice as it is in theory.
I can't wait to give it a try.

Thank you.
