In the darkroom yesterday I was printing with ILFOBROM GALERIE for the most part but changed to MCC 110 when I needed slightly more contrast. On selenium toning the prints (KRST 1+9) the ILFORD product worked as I wished deepening the blacks without too much colour change over 2-3 minutes. However the ADOX product shows a strong tendency towards purple / aubergine after this time. I suspect this means I'd be better off using a dilution of Se toner 1+19. I used PQ Universal paper developer.

The documentation states 'The simplest method is toning with ADOX Selenium Toner. It has the advantage over other toning solutions that the contrast of the prints is unaffected., the blacks are deepend and the image tone remains unafected.' However MCC reacts more strongly than GALERIE which is in line with my experience and the general principle that warmer toned papers should react more readily to toners.

Previous experience suggests that paper developer has an impact on toning results, so perhaps I should try ID-78 or another warm tone developer for comparison. Possibly PQ is not best matched to MCC, in similar fashion to how GALERIE can give slightly odd results with the warmtone developers.

I regularly print on MCC110 in ID78 followed by between 1 and 2 minutes ca1+9 Se toning. I notice no pronounced color shift with this approach.
Temperature of the Se toning greatly affects its activity btw.

Bit of a significant time difference between 1-2 minutes and 2-3 minutes... Assuming that one paper will react to a toner at the same speed as one made in a different plant to a different formulation is rather silly.

I wasn't making that assumption and I was toning the prints for the same length of time, I'm simply interested in the nature of the differences. As an example, one might decide to use MGWT or possibly the new Polywarmtone when released as these respond to controls readily, or in another case depending on requirements, the standard ILFORD MG papers, which some seem to suggest lack the ability to much change in Se toning, but which has not been my experience.

In my experience Adox MCC does change the colour of the print when selenium toned. I'd say it has similarities with Ilford MG classic and I really like this paper split toned (sepia / selenium).

That split toned result looks very good. I've not had a chance to do much printing with the MG Classic paper, I still have some MGIV paper to use.
