ADOX D-76 Question

My Freestyle order arrived today and it included three 1-liter packets of ADOX D-76. On the front of the package there is a time of 7 minutes at 68F for Tri-X. The Kodak D-76 time is 8 minutes. Is there supposed to be this difference? I know that there are many versions of D-76 floating around. I have a gallon of L-76 mixed up now.

One more developer question. I buy distilled water in plastic jugs. If it sits in the jugs for a while, can it affect the activity of developer I mix up using it?

That's a 14% difference. Not major. I'd start with whichever time appeals to you and take it from there. Don't attribute too much meaning to slight differences in published development times. Between versions of a film, measurement practices and definitions, there can me minor changes over time that account for such small differences.

Nope. Perfectly fine.
 
I've found that Kodak's listed development times for their films are more suited for a Condenser enlarger. I find them more difficult to scan (grass looks white, highlights almost blow). Kodak mentions this on some of their datasheets, and suggests reducing development times by 10%.

You may find Adox's published times work better, and with condenser enlargers, you can always bump up the contrast anyway.
 
I recently looked at Kodak’s researched film bulletin F4043. This tech bulletin is for Tmax 400 film and it mentions publish times are for a diffused light source. Kodak provides the CI index chart on page eight. The appropriate developing time for a semi condenser light source should be between .52 to .56. Although the chart is for TMY-2 I find if I reduce Tri-X and FP-4 development by 60-90s my negatives print on grade 3. I use an EI of 200 for Tri-X and 100 for FP-4. My enlarger is a LPL 670 semi condenser.

Kodak D76 times also do not match the ID-11 datasheet even though it's supposedly the same developer. In your case I would go with the ADOX time. ADOX is a real company with an R&D department and manufacturing. On the other hand, the Kodak datasheet is essentially a tombstone inscription from the distant past.

It is safe to assume that these three developers are interchangeable. D-76 is D-76 regardless of who made it.
