ADOX COLLOIDA PHOTOGELATIN

We now have two versions of ADOX COLLOIDA photogelatin.

One is the product which has been out for almost two decades now: A photographic coating gelatin in order to make an under- or overcoat in the work with liquid emulsions. This is now called ADOX COLLOIDA "R".

Next to this known product we now have a true precipitation gelatin (Ansatzgelatine) to make film or paper emulsions.

This is called ADOX COLLOIDA "P".

We placed them in different sections in the webshop but I wanted to announce this here as well so everyone knows which is the right product for him/her.

If you own a bottle of COLLOIDA without "P" or "R" it is coating gelatin!

In this case "R" as in "Regular". Could have been "S" for supercoating or "U" for undercoat or a simple "C" for coating.
"C" would have probably been a good choice as well but now the labels are printed ;-)

You can use it for precipitation but if you want consistant results you should choose the precipitation version. Basically P is the selction from the selection. The purest batches which have a narrower difference in bloom index get chosen as precipitation gelatin whilst the specs are not so strict for coating gelatin.
I think the bloom index is also shifted a bit because from the coating gelatin usually the top layer is manufactured which is on one end of the viscosity bandwidth of a coating package. But this can also be adjusted by other means. I don´t really know this last point for sure.

Hello Philippe,

As far as I understand the ADOX COLLOIDA P is cleaner. For reproducible silver gelatin emulsion making this is important since the emulsion reacts very sensitive to impurities. And you want to add the "impurities" yourself in a controlled manner.

For carbon printing this is not so important. More important is the “strength” of the gelatin. I get my gelatin from:

Yes I use the 225 Bloom gelatin for carbon printing.

However if I once start with emulsion making I will go for the Adox P gelatin.
