ADOX CMS 20 Developer?

Hi, Apart from the Adox Adotech an SPUR Nanospeed developers, can the film be developed in any of the Ilford or Kodak film developers? If so, how do the results compare to Adox Adotech an SPUR Nanospeed?

Rodinal

Only reliable info I have for another developer for this is Rodinal diluted 1+100 at 68˚ for 18 min. Gentle agitation (4 inversions) every minute.

Silver halide does not recognize what color box the chemistry arrived. All developers will work. Its mostly about technique and activity to convert the image.

Tom, I have never heard of Caffenol before. I know I can get hold of Rodinal fairly easily though. Still, I seem be using mainly Iford chemicals so I was wondering if any of their developers were suitable.

The caffineol recipe is given in the link (the 3rd link) I provided. Most - if not all of the ingredients can be found in a grocery store.

An Ilford developer that might work is diluted Perceptol. I believe you already have a time, temperature and dilution for rodinal.

A developer I would try is FORMULARY TD-3. TD-3 is a low contrast Document Film developer (liquid concentrate) formulated by William Troop.

You might try almost anything that was recommended for Kodak Technical Pan. Among the home brews for low contrast there is POTA and its derivatives (like Delagi-8, TDLC-101, modified POTA, etc.) There are also a lot of other very low contrast developers designed for this work. Anchell and Troop "The Film Developing Cookbook" lists a bunch of them. Something like Pyrocat-HD at very high dilutions might work. Brews designed to print litho films for use as alternative process negative (e.g. Soemarko's LC-1 in C. James, "The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes") may also work, but they may be too contrasty. For high contrast applications, try D-19.

Any low contrast developer will work but there are huge differences between them.
Rodinal 1+100 or 1+150 will not give the desireable results with this micro film. Some document developers will: Nanospeed, Rollei Low Contrast, Caffenol *

* This developer will also give nice results with the new Rollei ATP-V1.1 Tech Pan film, however working with Caffenol is also a bit messy.
R.L.C. will give the best overall results till iso 20. Rollei ATP-DC ("made by SPUR") developer is one of the best choices till iso 40 with this film. ATP-V1.1 Tech Pan is no micro film by the way.

Moersch UGI is also very good on the ATP-V1.1 Tech Pan film, but much lower in speed (iso 20) but is reaching then perfect the ideal log D curve.

But it's already said: The film will not recognize a special developer, it's just a matter of technique, experience and the right receipture for the overall best results.

What Ilford /Kodak/Tental developers are low contrast? These are availble to me. If I have to try Nanspeed, rollei low contrast, I might as well get the Adox Adotech- because I will be ordering it from the same place.

Consider SPUR Nanospeed UR to be the same as Adox Adotech.

Tetenal once had a contrast-lowering developer intended for the Kodak Technical Pan, but no longer offers that one.

At the moment it seems that looking for developers tailored to the very high-resolution film is the way to go.

The Rollei RLC is something still around frome those Kodak Technical Pan days.

The Spur company has designed a special developer (Adotech) for the CMS 20 film.

The Moersch as well as the Spur company each have designed a developer for the ATP film.

And there is the Gigabitfilm institute with its GTPfilm/HDRdeveloper combo.

Have just tried the ATP film with recommended developer - excellent. wish the tail solution of developer could be made up to 300ml and not just 250ml. My metal tank takes 250ml , but a plastic tank is recommended as the film is sensitive to iron in the water. I'm playing it safe here, could I use my stainless stel tank, and not a plastic one- it the film is that sensitive to iron ions?

ADOX CMS 20 Developer

I have used Ilford Microphen diluted 1:5 with both Kodak Technical Pan and Kodak Imakelink HQ films with good results. Microphen has pretty good keeping qualities and is more economical when used at 1:5 than many of the alternatives used with document type films.

1:100 rodinal doesn't work, the contrast is still out of this planet. but dilute kodak technidol works great.

Folks I have tried now Rollei ATP-V1.1 Tech Pan in the DC spur developer...gives me 40ASA and I am impressed with it. Just wish the little deveoper bottle would make up 300ml and not just 250ml.

Both Jobo and Durst tanks are plastic and need only 240mls. OK it'll cost to get either but over a long time the saving in other developers you might use will cancel out the cost of buying either tank.
