I was an advid Efke user until the company went under in 2012. I bought up enough stock to last a long time, but I'm wondering about Adox's new CHS II films. They say the CHS II 100 speed film is close to the old version. Yet its coated on a newer type machine which I hear gives it a finer grain then old. What they don't say is if this is still a silver rich film like the old Efke film was. Silver rich isn't mentioned once in the new film's info. Secondly will we ever see a 25 ASA version of CHS II? I love using slow films and the 25 speed of Efke was my go-to film. What company in Germany is coating these new emulsions now?

Silvermax is an Iso 100 film and no substitute for Efke if you want the Efke look it is a good choice if simply want a good iso 100 film. Silver rich in itself doesn't mean anything. The Efke Films had a very special spectral sensitivity which gave them their signature look 25 and 50 were not fully panchromatic.
CMS is a document film very high sharpness and again different spectral sensitivity than the EFKE KB/PL/R 25 50 100 films. Innoviscoat and Fotoimpex themselves coat the Adox Films. Rollei RPX 25 is a suitable though not identical substitute for Efke 25 imo and is available in all sizes up to 4x5in.

Mirko/Hdox have said there's insufficient demand for a 25 ISO replacement for ADOX/EFKE 25 which incidentally was 25 ISO in Tungsten light and 40 ISO in daylight. Also one of the components was no longer available, that happened with Agfapan 25 as well and the cost of reformulating would be completely uneconomic.

The new CHS II is a far better film than the old CHS 100 with better hardening, finer grain and is a worthy replacement to the CHS25 & CHS50.

As Ian says, Efke 25 @EI40 works very well - I process in FX39. I've tried using Efke 25 and 50 at their "box" speed in daylight, and got flat negatives, which lack sharpness. Ugh.

I've got some CHS100 II to try out. But... if it's a direct replacement for the old CHS 100 / Efke 100, shouldn't its speed in daylight be EI160?

Haven't seen that on any CHS100 II data sheet. The spectral response graph shows that its less red sensitive than Efke 100, but more sensitive to red than Efke 50. I don't know if that makes it a "proper" orthopan.

On the other hand if its daylight speed really is ISO100, then it is perhaps a replacement for CHS 50...?

I used EFKE too I was heart broken. I still have Agfa left but no Efke.

Probably not similer but the PET piping is supposed to be reduced.
You probably need to try all the monos from 50 to 200 ISO.
Foma, Ilford, Adox, etc.,... may be Orwo cine, ... ?

Some people are subjective I use the cheapest.

I can only use slower films on bright days.

I was visiting Efke fabric directly in Samobor and I was buying from them for years while living in Zagreb. We know each other by name.
When I moved to Poland - after Efke went down I visited them and bought some Emaks paper from the stock they had. The ruins that I saw were truly heartbreaking - even more when I know how big and good and glorious they were.
It was really sad.
