Adolfo Kaminsky dies at 97

Adolfo Kaminsky was a young boy in Normandy, working in a laundry, when he was recruited by the Resistance to forge papers to help Jews escape the Reich, because he had learned how to remove indelible inks. His forgeries helped many thousands to escape. He learned photography as part of his work as a forger.

He passed last week at 97. The New York Times obituary is moving, but behind a paywall. There is, however, a thoughtful and creative 16-minute documentary of Kaminsky’s life, told largely in his own voice, that one can stream on YouTube:
