Adobe Elements 14

I am currently using Photoshop CS4 which is getting a bit long in the tooth and if I have a computer failure in the future, I can no longer re-load it back onto any new device. Even this version I have, was remotely loaded onto my computer by Adobe, only after verification that the CS4 I have was from a series of upgrades starting with Photoshop 6 back in 2001. This cannot be replicated becuse they no longer support the original versions. I cannot load them myself although I have the disc's some are for 32 bit only and will not work on 64bit

I also don't want to go to the new idea - Creative Cloud on a pay by month scheme so Elements 14 is my next port of call. Can anyone tell me:-

Does Elements 14 support Adobe RAW?
If I get Elements 14 will it work alongside CS4, or will they "compete with each other"

Elements 14 is fairly new so you might not get much response from actual users. Previous versions of Elements have supported RAW so I expect that this one will too. Don't think there would be much trouble in running Elements on the same computer as any version of Photoshop. I have three versions of Photoshop installed on one particular computer (Reason: Adobe has progressively dropped functionality that I particularly like over the years) without any difficulty but you can't run more than one version simultaneously in separate windows - it simply won't allow a second version to open if you are already running another. I know what you mean by Adobe dropping things that I like and in my case find particularly useful is the ability to create and print sheets of thumbnails which went after CS2 was changed. I still use film for a lot of my photography and print in a wet darkroom. So I scan a sheet of negatives and print these as a better alternative to making contact sheets. To let me do this I still have the original Photoshop 6 loaded onto an old laptop.

One of the versions I keep is Photoshop 7. I only use the browser which, as far as I recall, was only included in 7 and the original CS. For individually cropping large numbers of files the browser beats hands down all versions of its replacement, Bridge, and as an added bonus those old versions of PS run like greased lightning on newer, more powerful computers with lots of memory. I don't only use old versions of PS - I do subscribe to CC but my favourite is CS5 for most purposes. The other one I use is CS2. I must confess that I didn't know Adobe had long ago got rid of contact sheets as I do them in another application ACDSee but before that I had used 7 to produce them. OzJohn

I am doing a lot of work with the New Capture 1 9, and it can do a lot of what I previously used photoshop for. It isn't a photoshop replacement, but the local adjustment layers are pretty powerful, and I have been testing printing straight from C1 for the past few weeks.

I've said this over and over, but there is nothing wrong with the software as a service model Adobe is on. It makes it affordable for people to use the software (legally), and it allows Adobe to push to updates more frequently. For about the cost of the full perpetual licensed version you can have 2 1/2-5 years of use on the subscription model.
