Hi, I just bought an old V35 witch I've never used before. To let the auto focus work properly, do I set the scale for the thickness of the easel or from the base? I'm not ready to begin printing right now to do test my self so please bare with me if the question is to easy. Thanks.

The autofucus is calibrated by default on the baseboard level. By lengthening the collumn (resp. heightening the hinge) by the height of the easel, the autofocus is adjusted onto that new level.

Ok, thanks. I just wind the V35 up until it's in focus? Easy.

Either measure the height of your easel and adjust the collumn respectively or project a negative onto your easel and adjust the column whilst controlling the focus.
The latter would be straight on, but maybe a bit difficult ergonomically.
Use a grain-focuser or similar to achive focus.

he thing in the picture doesn't look to be part of the original enlarger. I don't think Leitz used painted plywood for spacers.
The base of the column should mount directly on the baseboard. What's there looks like a jury rigged spacer to raise
the column by about 1 1/2"

What we see in that photo by no means can be related to the enlarger itself. I thought it to be a lateral detail of the easel, with a 24mm chipboard.
