Adhesive for Voigtlander R3A rubber handgrip and cover backing

My Voigtlander R3a rubber handgrip and back cover coating had come adrift, over time, from the camera body. I had tried various glues including, but not limited to: super glue, 2 part epoxy, standard contact cement, standard spray adhesive, "industrial" spray adhesive and plastic model glue. None held the rubber to the camera body. I stumbled upon 3M Spray Adhesive 80 which now is working/sticking beautifully. For others with the same problem on the same camera - it should be noted that the rubber deformed (expanded) over time from heat and I had to cut it down back to size to fit the indentations on the camera body, where it fits snugly.

It is specifically designed for rubber and vinyl and as a plus, also works to hold my girlfriend's "headliner" (ceiling fabric) to the inside of the roof of her Citroen C4 car!

3M Spray Adhesive 80 ...

I am not sure why it worked for you. Well, the classic contact cements are not advised for use with plasticised PVC, newer versions of contact cements well. Maybe that is the reason.

The problem with such coverings is first that the material typically is not known to us, furthermore often it is in some state of decay as in your case.
From you description the material seems some sort of modern elastomer.

The same thing happened on my R3a. It was as if the cover outgrew the camera and started to get droopy. I never recovered mine since it lived in a half case, which helped muffle it's metal shutter. Loved that camera, but the R2a worked out better w/ my glasses.
