I have an old Gitzo tripod with only a screw mount. Is there an adapter I can use to make it quick release?

Many tripods allow removal of the entire head from the column, so a new head with QR can be fitted.

Other tripods have heads with removable baseplates at the top of the head, so threaded baseplate can be removed and fitted with a QR base

Sometimes removal of the existing head/baseplate entails loosening a setscrew on the underside.

Look for either removeable baseplate or removable head in your Gitzo. You might let us know which specific Gitzo head is on the tripod, or which Gitzo tripod. Likely someone has experience with that specific unit.

Absolutely. The easiest way is to replace the tripod head with a quick release adapter.

There are quick release add-ons you can buy. I have one (didn't even know what it was when I first saw it) branded Cullmann. That company still seems to make such things.

There are many sources for quick release clamps. Novoflex, Really Right Stuff, Acratech, Kirk and Leofoto all use the Arca Swiss system. And of course, Arca Swiss.

This is a bit more affordable

the QR base will mount to your tripod screw mount base plate. You then have a QR base for the accompanying plate.
