Adding a 4x5 back to a 8x10 body......is it worth it

I have a Wisner 4.5 and have just bought a Chamonix 8x10. I noticed they sell a 4x5 adapter for the Chamonix.........is it worth getting one.

The 8x10 bellows and body thickness will create problems with the shorter 4x5 lenses.

I got it thanks.....i'll stick with what I have got and if I need to shoot 4x5 then I will use my Wisner

I always figured if I'm going to lug the weight of an 8x10 outfit to wherever, then I'm most definitely going to shoot 8x10 film! The only reason I ever even entertained the thought of putting a 4x5 reducing back on my 8x10 was to allow use of longer lenses that couldn't be used on any 4x5 I had; at the time, anyway.

get it and sell the wisner
if you get a verito, veritar, HUGE RR, or vesta or some crazy portrait or landscape lens
for your 8x10 and decide you want to shoot 4x5 wet plates or glass or film or paper
with this lens to save $$ on the learning curve or ... whatever,
doyou really want to deprive yourself of that ?
sure the camera is big and people here or the LF site may tell you " whats the point ?! "
the point is you want to do it ... i had a 35mm back for my 4x5 so i could shoot vintage lenses and do PC work
with small film, it was worth every 1¢ i spent on the back, ...
btw you can always buy a clunker 4x5 and screw the 4x5 back on a piece of plywood and do it on the cheap
( and keep the wisner ) if you get the urge and don't want to spend the $$ on a factory back ...

If I'm going to the trouble of hauling the 8x10, I'm definitely NOT thinking of shooting 4x5 as well. Cut back on the gear acquisition and work with what u have. u just got a 4x5 and now yer getting into 8x10 ?

I always carry my 4x5 reducing back with me. Beats carrying two cameras around.
