Take2

After contemplating the Bromoil process for a number of years, I finaly decided to take the leap. I read through Derek Watkins' book, did my 'homework' (threads, posts, articles, etc) and placed an order with David Lewis for brushes, inks and accessories. I opted for the liquid emulsion route (over commercially coated papers) partly for the Gandolfi Effect and because I did not want to be limited to a particular paper stock. So add to the list two packs of Arches (hot and cold press) uncoated water color paper and a kilo of Foma LE. Next stop: Artcraft. I'll be hiding from the credit card statement this month.

I wanted to share my experience and help keep this group active! I've never coated LE so any tips or helpful advice is appreciated.

Sounds great, Take2! Let's hear how you get on with the adventure - maybe it'll get things going a bit here too. Liquid emulsion on watercolour paper is softer than normal silver papers with are rather hard, so a bit more gentle handling of the prints is a good.

Welcome! You are really going to enjoy this process. I have read that you will need to hand coat (2) layers in order to obtain acceptable contrast. I've never hand coated for bromoil but it sounds as if it's worth a try if you run into problems. If you are looking for a good commercial paper I would suggest fomabrom variant IV 123. I've tried Ilford MGFB IV at various tempuratures and printing depths but the matrices would not accept the ink.

Good luck and have fun!
