Is there an adapter to go from Leicaflex SL2 body to Contax lenses (C/Y) ? How about any other lens system?
Since I was 16, I've always wanted a Leicaflex but I'm not a big fan of the coating issues with Leitz lenses. Besides, I have lenses for Contax (G and C/Y) and Zeiss with M-mount.
According to this handy "Camera Mounts Sorted by Register" at Cornell University's website https://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~westin/misc/mounts-by-register.html
the Contax lenses have a flange distance of 45.5 mm, whereas a Leica R lens has a flange distance of 47mm. Setting aside the possibility (and comprises) of using an adapter with an corrective optical element, even if you could mount a Contax lens on the Leica body, you could focus toward infinity (and reach it according to the focus markings on the lens) but the image on the film itself would be out of focus -- you could not reach true infinity focus. If you were putting a Leica lens on a Contax body, then the situation reverses. As the Leica R lens has a longer flange distance than the Contax body requires, you could make an adapter that's 1.5mm thick and you're in business. (I say all this in the sincere hope that I've got these flange-and-focus relationships correct! If not, I'm sure someone will set me straight...)
You are correct. IF it's MACRO work, either lenses could be adapted to either camera -- somehow -- but for normal use it's impossible without corrective optics -- so no company would make it.
The link is very helpful. Hard to get this info in one place
