I would classify it as darkroom work as opposed to photography, similar to Man Ray's Raygraphs.

I know and like his work, but I had never heard him speak...and I agree with him and like how honest he is when he says what he thinks.
I often feel ridiculous even sharing which camera I used to take a picture because it really doesn't f*#$#$ matter. So what if you also have an N80, same lens and where standing right next to me? Your picture would be different, and it can't be replicated...also, can't you just enjoy the magic of the beautiful piece in front of you? Must we have answers to everything?

OP: why do you feel conflicted about sharing his work?

Those are great. His objection to queries about the technical side of photography is something we discussed on another thread a while ago and something I still find curious about the medium.

my concern was about how suitable the material is for this community...it being largely used as a platform for 'how' --
his work, mode and mannerisms are part of a very wide and deep flow of photo and art history...my interest over the past 20 years has been of how community of practice changes as a field of knowleedge does.
I am concerned about diverting someones growth... the thing I've seen too often within hobby arenas.
[this feels like tmi, since I'm not a regular participant online. give it little followup]

It is a reasonably diverse community.
Adam Fuss' work and his words are the sort that will fascinate some, and leave some cold.
But even though the things I tend to do are pretty traditional, and even though I really enjoy the "how", it doesn't mean that I don't want to see and know about and sometimes be inspired by what very different photographers actually do.
If nothing else, they give me ideas for photographic "play".

I understand your concern given your "big picture" interest. Another aspect to consider within that would be what constitutes growth when it comes to a hobby, which is inherently done for pleasure. It doesn't mean the same to everyone. I think that exposure to different ways of doing (and being!) can only enrich us.
