I developed my first roll of 120 film today. Fuji Acros in Ilford ID-11 (stock for 6 3/4 mins at 20 deg C).
I fixed with Ilford Rapid Fixer 1+4 for 5 mins with constant agitation. Is this long enough? ... Ilford recommends 3-5 mins for general purpose films ... I don't know if it is my imagination, or whether my eyes took time to adjust to the light in the bathroom where I hung the film to dry, but it seemed as though the negs darkened up a bit for the first few minutes after removal from the tank.
And another thing ... with 35mm Arista Premium 400 I usually do a quick pre soak and rinse in fresh water before pouring in the developer (recommended by a darkroom instructor). I did the same with the Across 120 but got distracted and left it soaking for about 10 mins. When I emptied the water out it was dark blue. What is going on there? Would it cause any issues doing this before starting developing?
Thanks
I usually presoak for three mins-gets rid of most of the antihalation layer, also a one min rinse after stop(unless I'm using Pyrocat HD-then no stop only rinse) then fix for five mins.
Thanks all ... Woke this morning and checked the negs hanging in the diffuse light of the bathroom ... All seems good ... Now for a closer look ...
Cheers
5 minutes is too long if you adhere to the " fix for twice the clearing time " as acros will clear in about 40-45 seconds. you can verify the clearing time by opening the tank around that time and checking.
I shoot alot of Acros, mostly in 4x5 and some 120. My usual routine is a 5 minute prewash, whatever I am in the mood for developer, a waterstop and usually 5 minutes in Ilford rapid fix. All my negs have come out fine.
usually if you presoak you have to decrease your develop time because ur removing the time that the developer makes it way into the emulsion... usually decrease by 10% but that is just a guess most ppl whether they soak or presoak say that "their negatives turn out fine"... Also rapid fixer can theoretically clear the film in less than a minute... sometimes even 30 seconds... so 5 minutes should be more than enough... unless it is really really cold or u mixed it up wrong
