I'm looking into getting another ballhead. I have a B1 but it's a bit heavy and overkill for hiking, so I purchased a P0 some time ago. The P0 hasn't fully grown on me and I'm thinking about replacing it with an Acratech Ultimate. I was wondering if anyone has experience with using the "naked" version of the ballhead (see link below) with the newer Hasselblad quick-release adapter. The adapter can accept a 3/8'' screw (among 3 other sizes), but I'm wondering how securely it fits given there's no platform with the rubber material, as there is with the B1 and P0. I assume I'd need a lock washer, but I'm just wondering about the overall security/stability using the quick release adapter in a way it likely wasn't originally designed for (ie, using it as both the platform and the quick release).

The Hasselblad adapter seems like it's well built, so I'm thinking it should be able to tolerate the weight/stress on that screw-hole, but I'm wondering if anyone has any actual first-hand experience. I just broke my 501c so I'm trying to tread carefully when it comes to testing out new things...

(I'm not looking into the Acratechs with the quick release because I only shoot with Hasselblad and the quick release systems works well for me--I don't like having a plate on the camera that extends past the rubber feet as I use those rubber feet a fair amount).

If anyone has alternative light/rugged ballheads to recommend, I'm certainly open to new ideas, but my impression was the P0 or Ultimate would be the two best heads to look into.

That 3/8" screw will handle all the weight you'll ever put on it and then some. Just get the Hassy quick-release mechanism and screw it on and you'll be golden.

I'm not worried about the screw handling the weight--I'm more concerned if the screw-hole of the Hasselblad adapter can handle it, and if it would be secure without a plate to mount on. I would assume it could, but would love to hear from others who screwed on a quick release adapter, since the tripod plate is typically bolted in place, and then a quick release adapter screws in place on top of that (usually with cork or rubber to hold it securely)
