Achieving portra 400 look

I have recently started shooting Portra 400 being quite new to film, and my negatives are being scanned on a noritsu as I’m trying to achieve a more neutral less punchy look.

For anyone who uses this film, it would be great to get any advice on if I am exposing wrong, or am i shooting in the wrong conditions, As it’s happening frequently.

The first two photos are mine Shot in daylight and exposed at 200-250. The other two shots are on film to, shot by photographers delphine Brenner and Sam dameshek. (This is what I’m aiming for. Nice skin tones, colours natural and not over exposed)

Your second photo looks perfectly exposed.
The first photo was shot in lighting that would challenge any capture medium - what is it that gives you concern about it.
The other two photos have scantily clad women in them. I hope you weren't expecting the film to make your models look like them!
 
 
I know that 2 swallows do not make a summer but in a relatively short time we have had two Australians looking for something that they both feel/felt Portra 400 was not delivering, namely lower contrast or less punchy more neutral colours. In both cases I feel that what they had shot looked fine but in both cases they seek something else that pics on Pinterest or by two other photographers had got?

Just an observation on my part but on a more practical level I'd be surprised if Brandon88 could not reproduce the same shots in the same conditions as his two named photogs

There is something going on here. Pretty much the same exact post as dylan77 but now by brandon88. Pretty much the same images even.

Well they are both males from Australia. We have a pic of Dylan but not of Brandon who joined us on the day that Dylan was last seen. Both certainly seem to have the same issues with Portra but expressed slightly differently. Both seek to be able to do what other photographers have done.

It might just be one rather large coincidence of course.

I am sure Brandon will clear matters up for us. He should still be up and about in OZ unless he goes to bed quite early

Honestly doesnt anyone else think the photo of the chick kneeling on the chaise lounger is over exposed on the right half of the image?

I am afraid not in photographic exposure. However I can see overexposure of the skin setting in after a few hours in the sun may require treatment

By the way we lost Brandon on Jan 15th but did we retain Dylan's interest?
