Yes, and, while I'd never think of sanding down a 45, I was replying to the original poster's inquiry, which wasn't, "How can I view the world in a certain aspect ratio, " but,

"Is there any way to get such an aspect ratio, without cropping, on still 35mm?"

Myself, sure, if I wanted a certain ratio, I'd probably just crop.

Another option would be a Bronica SQa with the 135W back. The whole outfit is a lot cheaper than a Xpan or a Mamiya 7.

Or a Bronica ETRS with 135W back - which is what I use for panoramas when I'm not using 6x12.

The reason I got the back originally was that if I were to run out of film on a trip, 35mm film is a lot easier to find than 120. So I could just swap backs and continue shooting with "cheap consumer films" from any supermarket.
