Accurate thickness of ETRS dark slides

Hello everyone,

So after a couple beers with an engineering buddy of mine, we're going to attempt to just cut a few ETRS darkslides out of sheet metal. I don't have any calipers handy, and would like to get some exact dimensions to him before I head up for the day to make them. If anyone has a set of calipers, could I get them to measure the thickness of one?

I can't seem to find the specs online.

If anyone else needs darkslides and has specs and sizes, let me know, as I think the minimum metal we can get locally is enough for about a dozen...

Take your darkslide to steel supplier , they measure there.

All I've got here is a cheap dial caliper, which is measuring 0.012".

Okay, thanks!

I have to line up supplies ahead of time, before heading into the shop to get materials and what not... Sadly, without a long drive, there's nothing more than a grocery store and Walmart out here =/

.012" sounds about right. I tried a piece of hobby plastic that was .040", and it looked about triple the thickness of my slides. Looks like 30 gauge stainless steel sheet metal will do it!

I just checked four slides with a micrometer and they are all .012" + or - a tenth of a thou.

Got some sheet metal, should be fabbing these up on Tuesday.

Any isssues with forgoing the dark slide registration pin? I can unmount the film backs by pushing the lens release button in addition to the back release button.

Aside from the perhaps fogged roll of film by pulling off a back without a darkslide in it by negting the interlock function, will there be any other issues with this?

The little pin is a bit thicker, and offset, so likely difficult to fab with my skill level...

OK, cool. I just tested a back with no darkslide and some backing paper... Essentially the only thing that pin does is let you release with just one button. Shouldn't affect the functionality one bit! I'll figure out some way to keep darkslides clipped to something or somewhere so I won't ever forget. Maybe I'll glue a little magnet to the front of a lens cap, so they'll stick together in my pocket.

30 gage SS is what i made em out of.

Be sure to carefully debur the edges so it won't eat up your light baffles!
