Accura lens.

When I got my H1a, there was a 35/2.8 "Accura Wide-Angle" lens screwed to the body in lieu of a body cap. It's a T-mount, preset aperture.
It looks halfway decently made, but there's no black paint on the interior(!), just shiny anodised aluminium. The friend who sold the camera considered it worthless as a lens.

Anyone out there have any experience with these? Looking around the 'net, it seems to have been made by Sigma. I haven't found any firsthand reports of how they are.

That is the best way to evaluate any lens. Just use it to take the kind of pictures you usually take and see if you like it.

Yep, that's what I'll do. The fact that I found virtually no info. on it piqued my curiosity, hence this thread. Maybe I'll do some as-is pics, then black out all the shiny internal stuff and try again.

From the late 50's to the early/mid 70's there were a slug of these preset lenses on the market. For a while, throughout the 80's and 90's you could pick them up for a song at photo flea markets. Now for some odd reason they seem to have mostly dried up. A few, like the Vivitar 85mm f1.8 sometimes go for higher prices than a camera makers lens of the same focal length. Go figure.

I have to confess, I have a not-utterly-healthy fascination with this lens.:confused:

Accura is like soligor - lots of different companies supplied them with lenses, so you never know what you might end up with quality wise. Post a picture of it if you can.

Some older pre-set lenses have the same optical design as the auto diaphragm lenses which were made at the same time or later. One of my favorite old lenses is the Vivitar 28/2.5 Fixed Mount. I have auto diaphragm versions in every mount I am aware of. I also have a pre-set model somewhere which has a Canon mount adapter on it. It is as good as all of the Fixed Mount examples I have. I am looking for pre-set lenses I have around to use on a Konica FS which was serviced last year. The old F mount Hexanons are not very plentiful and are sometimes expensive. The pre-set lenses can supplement the 50/2 F mount Hexanon I already have. I have an Exakta to F mount adapter so I can put a Viviter or Soligor T4 lens with an Exakta adapter on for one lens. I would like to find an M42 to Konica F adapter for a reasonable price because I have plenty of nice Takumars, SMCT and SMC M42 lenses.

Sigma sold its lenses under the Accura trade name before they began selling them under the Sigma trademark. They were also a major supplier of rebranded third-party lenses sold by camera stores and importers in the 1960s, including Spiratone.

I had an Accura 35/2.8. It was an auto diaphragm M42 mount lens and came with a Spotty. It wasn't bad but not up to the SMC Takumar 35mm f/3.5 I replaced it with. Bulky and I don't need f/2.8 in a slightly wide normal.
