What is the commute like from the airport area to the conference location? On a map it looks to be about 15 miles, but how bad is the traffic? I am still looking for cheaper places to stay. Thanks for any help!

Like most big cities, it all depends on what time you are trying to get from the airport. In the middle of the night when there is no traffic the travel time could be less than 30 min. During the morning or evening 'rush' that time could stretch up to 1.5 to 2 hours. What time will you be coming in?

Krystyna,

Honestly I wouldn't stay near the airport. Commuting will be a nightmare. If you don't have a car it will be about 2 hours, I kid you not, taking public transportation.

Here's my suggestion: find someone to share a room with at the Conference Hotel. Two queens for $119CAD divided by 2 = $60CAD = about $50USD per person. There will be many people with cars, so you won't have to worry getting to/from the conference from the hotel.

Regards, Art.

Thanks for your replies! I'll be driving up from Connecticut, so I'll have a car. I wouldn't mind sharing a room, just didn't know how to go about it. I'll be meeting with the New England APUG-ers next Saturday, so maybe I can work something out with one of them. The Roehampton hotel is full, according to my web search, so I was thinking that the airport area might be the best place to find vacancies and competitive rates.

One option you may want to look into is staying at Glendon College, fifteen/twenty minute drive away give or take. You'd have to contact them http://glendon.yorku.ca/QuickPlace/...1A09063D3B5361885256F26004CF827/?OpenDocument to find out when they rent out rooms. The page says May and on. Glendon College, a bilingual branch of York University, is in a very nice ( ie toney) part of Toronto. Think Rosedale, Forest Hill if you know Toronto.

Oh, yeah , I'm a new member, will be subscribing soon and it's a breath of fresh air to find a site devoted strictly to trad photography especially after slinging D2h's at work all week

And yeah, the commute from the airport is going to be brutal...and long.

That's actually an awesome idea. The rooms are likely to be quite basic, but it's a gorgeous area of town, and not terribly far from Bob Carnie's lab.

The only disadvantage I can see is that the Glendon College area is pretty poorly served by public transit.

Welcome to APUG, canuhead.

Thanks folks! I'll call the Roehampton this time, and check out the college as well, and I gather from what you're saying that it's a bad idea to try to commute from the airport area...

Cheers, K
