Canon AE1! Hi guys, it has been a little while, but I'm back. I got an old AE 1 as a gift from a friend, who didn't seem to mind he could make some bucks off of it on Ebay. i don't plan to sell it, but I do plan to spend 100 dollars or so refurbishing it....The thought of having a real classic in my growing collection boils my noodles.....Anyway, I'll have it done in a couple of weeks, and will start shooting with its 50mm 1.8. I may be popping up here for advice on using AE-1's. Long Live Film!

The AE-1 was first camera I bought in North America. I think about 1980 at Eatons for $750 CAN with 50mm 1.8 and 80-200 zoom lens. How time flies.
Enjoy your new camera and your stay at APUG.

Thanks for all the replies......I can't wait to start shooting. My main use camera for right now is an EOS Rebel 2000 (62 bucks on Ebay!). But, when I finally get the AE1 done, I'll switch off to that one for a while. It feels so dang solid and non-plastic. Anyway, I'll keep updating.....

Welcome, rafalweb, from NYC.

Why not become a "Subscriber" and they you can post some pics from your "new-to-you" AE-1?

I'd love to....It sounds silly, but I can justify only so many exoenses with 2 small ones and diapers and formula to buy constantly. I'm looking for extra cash now, and I;ll be spending what I have on that refurb. I can, however post my oics on my university server, and add a link to it and make it available to all.........and later on I'll subscribe.

My first SLR was an AE-1, then an A-1 came soon after... Finaly one day I sold them to buy a Large Format Lens... I have missed them ever since.. Don't part with your Canon FD mount cameras!
