Hi all

I'm a bit newbe about shutter. I bought a Tachihara 4x5 who come with a Rodenstock Grandagon 90mm f6.8 with a Synchro Compur shutter. I realized that the the shutter is stuck and there is a missing part...any way I'm looking for a new shutter. The lens is mounted on a Technika lens board #0. Do I find exactly the same shutter or any shutter with a #0? Is the shutter decide what is my maximum aperture? I don't understand really. My maximum aperture have nothing to see with the ''glass'' and just the shutter I have or what. Excuse my approximative English.

Need help

it can be a little complicated, but:

- the front and rear lens cells should unscrew and screw into and compur or copal #0 shutter, however
- the f-stop markings on the transplant shutter likely won't be accurate. You can attempt to measure the aperture opening and come up with your own scale, or
- if you buy an identical generation replacement shutter you may be able to unscrew the existing aperture plate from your bad shutter and attach it to your new shutter, but
- replacement shutters are expensive, and usually the cheapest way to get on it to buy it with another lens already installed. a later #0 will probably cost about US$200, which is possibly more expensive than sending the shutter in for service.

Since you're new...

Be sure the preview lever is not engaged and holding the aperture open. LF shutters need to be held open for viewing; there is a sliding lever/knob on the side of the shutter that opens it for viewing and then closes it for taking.

If the shutter does have a problem, send it in to a reputable repair shop for service. This will be your cheapest option and ensure you have a good, working shutter for years to come. Maybe someone on the forum here from Montreal or close by can help with suggesting a repair shop.

I fully agree with the above. If you send the shutter to a reputable repair shop, one of those that have been on the market for many years, they will almost surely have dead shutters in stock from which they will "borrow" your missing part.
