A Super Angulon 75mm/5.6 lens

Not sure about my intention (and actual necessity), but have been offered this lens in reportedly almost new condition (everything, optisc and shutter).
Comes wth Copal #0 or #1 shutter (don't remember exactly). According to the seller, this is single-coated version, however he isn't sure and additional check might be needed to make sure this isnt' the multicoated one.

What would be the right price for this lens given its like new condition ? (lets divide the quesiton by single-coated and multi-coated versions). Ebay search didn't bring enough results to draw the conclusion by statistics (just one or two lense went for about 750$ but apparently both where reported by the seller as multicoated versions) which sounds a bit over the average for these (given the availability of f/4.5 faster versions by MPEX and KEH for about the same price).

Alex, if you're thinking 75/4.5 you must be thinking Rodenstock or Nikkor. These aren't SAs. The only SA faster than f/5.6, IIRC, is the 53/4.

Dan, this is about f/5.6 version. What I meant that f/4.5 75mm lenses are available for about 750$ which means that 750$ for f/5.6 (as noticed on Ebay) probably a bit over ?
The question is what would the right price for 75mm/5.6 SA (single and multicoated)

I thought all f:5.6 SA's were multicoated? I can only remember seeing that specified for the older f:8 Super Angulons?

BTW, a 75mm SA will be in a #0 shutter. Some older (f:8) SA's can be in #00, but never #1.

Ole, if you check Schneider's site you'll see that older f/5.6 SAs are single-coated, newer ones are multicoated. FWIW, my 47/5.6 is quite old and is single-coated. It goes in a #00 shutter; multi-coated 47/5.6s go in a #0. Single-coated though mine is, I'm delighted with it.

Sorry, Alex, I have no idea what a reasonable price should be.

But its an interesting idea. Do you really think that all lenses with similar specifications should sell at the same price?

I've been watching and bidding on various auctions for SA 75/5.6's for a while on ebay, and I've seen auctions end anywhere from about $750 up to a bit north of $1000. Most seem to sell around the $900-950 range. $750 sounds like a pretty good price to me.

If I could use one on my 4x5", I'd buy it at $750.

Since I can't (won't focus to infinity), I have to resort to using a bigger film. So I make do with a 90mm f:8 (single-coated, 00 shutter) on 5x7".

Ole, can't you use 75mm lens on your 4x5 ? Even with bag bellows or recessed board ?

My 4x5" is a Linhof Color, and the bellows are really compressed with a 90mm on a recessed board. Due to the "roof" there's not a lot of movements possible, many users of these have taken a hacksaw to the housing to make it easier to use front rise.

But as I said, I have the option (which I really prefer) of using a 90mm on 5x7" film, or even a 210mm on 12x16"!

In fact, I'm also in doubt 75mm lens can be usable on my Shen-Hao 4x5 (with regular bellows and flat board). I notice focusing on infinity with my Caltar II-N 90mm/6.8 compresses the bellows quite stiffly (albeit there is certain room for movements), so I guess 75mm would make the movements totally out of question, or even probably will not allow enough bellows compression at all to achieve infinity focus.

However, if this is indeed good deal (the lens is reportedly in Mint condition), I would hate to miss it. Perhaps I'll proceed the following way: I'll open a thread here on LF forums inquiring our fellows whether someone would be ineterested in this lens for given price. If there will be positive responces, I'll go ahead and purchase it (this is local deal - purchasing in person) and then will forward it to a happy buyer here on APUG for the same price I bought it (and which would be finilized with the buyer here prior to the purchase of course). I'll be glad to help our fellows here, no intention to make any actual profit out of our members.

The f5.6 Super Angulon series was introduced in the mid-1960s. I'd have to go back and check my archives for the exact year, but assume around 1965 give or take a year. That means they were around for over a decade before Schneider started multicoating their lenses. Single coated 75mm and 90mm f5.6 Super Angulons are fairly common on the used market. Single coated 47mm and 65mm f5.6 Super Angulons also show up used, but aren't as common as the two longer focal lengths.
