Now, if I could draw, like Robert Crumb or John Howard, I'd give up photography too. Not that I am like Bresson and fell out of love with it. But photography is just too $$$ nowadays.

For $25 I could be in biz for years drawing. But alas, I have no talent for drawing. So I'm stuck with $$ sucking photography.

Luckily for me I am highly skilled in my work or it would be really sad. I'd have an addiction to freeze time, be paying out lots of $$ and doing shitty work as a reward.

They have a lot to answer for.

With the Victorians though, the 'slang' words were more from respect than disrespect. They used words like belly and backside because the proper naming of body parts,ie. stomach and buttocks etc. was seen as improper. Expecting. With child. In the Family Way etc. Any description of pregnancy must not use the word pregnant.

Some are trying to bring that back, insisting that certain medically correct terms are inappropriate. Whoever came up with the 'preferred term' for the ______ as in the ______ monologues must have an emotional age of 6.

Agree with summicron1, the pic isn't very good. I've seen more artistry in girlie mags.

What you gave as a different example of nude photography is from the 20th ?



I don't shot nudes because it is forbidden! Realy ? From my point one has to forbit it!
Because I saw results of a collegue who is destroying his fully hard work he invested since years
for reputation!
But he isn't able to notice that and one better has not to tell him!



If you want to shot fashion - you often have to work with underage girls. I remember some
situations where they came accompanied by a parent. (as allways I should add - but some models are 18+)
One father I remember with his 16years daughter was real kind - but in the same moment he was watching the shooting take place!....

No problem to me at all - but I guess it is not so bad to decide : NOT to shot nudes (better not)
What I want to express : I see no reason for a general ban (just to be not missunderstood).
Beside the fact that nude photography is not so much "idealed suited" to become a photographer!

Shocking number of asexual folks posting on this thread.

That's essentially my quick and dirty answer to "What is art?" A few weeks ago I taught a digital photography class for Girl Scouts working on that merit badge. (No nudes, I promise!) I told them that I wanted them to take more interesting pictures, more "artsy," not just "pretty pictures.........flowers, birds, etc." And, what is art? An image that stops you (i.e., startled) and you think to yourself, "I've never seen/thought it that way."

I must have been effective. When they came back with what they shot outside, I was amazed at what they "got." Many really amazing shots, and they could often tell me what specific hint I had given them that led to the picture. Mostly compositional.
