I've noticed since some days that the shutter of my Nikon F2 remains open at 1 second and 1/2 of second untill i leave the finger pushed over the shutter relase,
then , the curtains close at the right shutter speed as soon i take the finger off the button, so, to work properly i should immediately free the shutter relase from the pressure .
The strange thing is that, if i select T and set 2 seconds, for example , or any other slow speed on self time lever and shoot, the camera works properly, so is not a problem with slowest speeds .
Is not a big problem and, at least at the moment ,i'll not send the camera to repair but i was
asking what could be , by the moment that in T mode all the slow speeds work .

It needs servicing. The very slow speeds work because they are different mechanisms,

I've tried again just now and also 1/4 and 1/8 have the same issue , yesterday were ok,
so it needs definitely a repair .

Time for a CLA.

I recently got the f2 and i dont know what the T mode is for

T setting is for Time. With the dial set to “T” the shutter will stay open till you move the setting from it. “B” is for Bulb. With a cable release the shutter will stay open as long as the plunger on the cable is depressed.

During my whole photographic life I never had to use T, but as I understand this setting the pressing the shutter release opens the shutter, and pressing the shutter release a second time closes the shutter. With B the shutter stays open as long as shutter release is held down.

It is for long exposures:
The first trip opens the shutter
The second trip closes the shutter

I use it all the time on leaf shutters, its a PITA using on the F2 having to turn the crown under the shutter button to release it. Why would they make it like that?

After my Nikon F (bought new at the time) and I took a tumble off a motorcycle, the 1/8 second would stay open until I turned the dial. I just used it for years without the 1/8. Finally got it serviced by Nikon House in NYC in the 70's, traded it in later for an F2.

Was the motorbike ok?

We both made it home just fine, plus a few scrapes. It was a low-speed tumble on a sharp curve on a mountain road. Plus, I was 19 and invincible.

You bounce better when you’re young. Learned about reverse steering when the Suzuki tossed me into the weeds on a sharp low speed corner.

Are you still invincible or has your manufacturer's warranty expired?

There is another way to use T .

You set B time and the shutter selector to T, then , on the self timer lever set a number of seconds from 2 to 10 , for example 8 seconds, push the shutter relase and continue to keep pushed and the camera after 8 seconds closes the curtains.
Is what today cameras do electronically counting till 30'' of exposure , the F2 can
count till 10''.

I have an extended warranty, but there's a very high deductible.

The deductibles can get to be expensive. Personally I am tired of piece part body replacement and I am holding out for a complete body replacement with one recovery and one rehabilitation.

Reading the last few posts. if I see any talk here about people harvesting necessary parts from broken donor bodies, I'm definitely going to get out my moderator's scythe!

I keep a couple of spare bodies wrapped in plastic in a cool, dark place just for that purpose.

Are you talking about camera bodies or human bodies? A little clarification here would be useful, ok?
