Hello OZ APUGIANS,
After 20 plus years Im going back to the Darkroom.
Now I have the time and the room to do B&W again. I had to give it away for different reasons but now now Im back. But things are different now . I used to get supplies from Adelaide and my local Photo-lab-shop had chemicals and paper. The chemist even had 620 verichrome film. Many items have disappeared from shelves around the place . As you would know whole photoshops have vanished.
I live in country Victoria now and I suppose Melbourne still has a good store somewhere .
Where is the best place to go in Vic, to get the basics to get me started again ??

Vanbar probably has the best range of chemicals and paper.

Michaels carries a bit.

Keep an eye on eBay under "Darkroom Supplies".

If you're after specifics, perhaps list them and other suggestions might come up.

There are plenty of film users here in Vic!

Vanbar for chemicals - about $18 shipped to me 65kms from their store - but Freestyle in the U.S. for film. Darkroom 'hardware' was accumulated between a second hand camera store nearby, eBay and the kindness of (no longer) strangers here on APUG.

Good luck getting back into the groove!

Darkroom supplies- Mail order

Barrie B. Melbourne here ,
I have been using Foma RC and Fibre base paper for some time now as well as Foma Pan 100 ISO film in 4 X 5 size .and like these products it better than Ilford .
T o a lesser extent I have used Foma chemicals also. ( my chemical choices are Kodak D-76 , Kodak Dektol , Rodinal , and Ilford Warm-Tone paper developer all from Van-Bars) .
Chris Reid , owner of Blanco Negro, can post / courier ALL you would need to operate a B & W darkroom , AND his prices and service are good . ( however ) be advised that postal delivery costs must be added , and parcel weight concidered, I always get the slower delivery , as it is cheaper.
Email or Phone ' Carisse ' to sort things out . - (02) 9698 4552 , mob. 0412025956 . Chris is often printing in his darkroom OR giving workshops at " Gold Street Studios " in Trentham East.
Welcome back to darkroom magic , you will find lots of friendly ' APUG ' members in Victoria , Australia AND worldwide .
........................ Cheers Barrie B.
