A peculiar Profisix

I have two Gossen Profisix light meters. One of the two has a rather strange peculiarity that may be intentional in that the scale -3 to +3 stops has been transferred to -1 to +1 stops (the actual scale is the same, the needle just moves a lot faster than expected). Every stops is actually only 1/3. The meter is also one stop off but apart from that it is accurate in the entire range compared to my second Profisix (I set the ISO to 50 instead of 100 and it is spot on). Both meters work just the same with all accessories the only difference being that the needle will move one whole step instead of a third on one of them.

Could this be a deliberate conversion? I know it seems a bit far fetched but since it measures just fine all over the range (once it has been one stop corrected), and this is a very large range since it is a Profisix, it doesn't strike me as an accident. But on the other hand. Why would anyone do it? Is it at all possible?

That the reading still is true, in the meaning of proper reading after re-designating the scale fuill stops, speaks against a fault.
What strikes me is that someone doing such conversion would most likely convert the dial too, at least add new marks.

What strikes me too is that I do not see the use of that stretching in readability.


That is so weird, you should inform Gossen. Perhaps they did the conversion, otherwise at least the older peple there might be interested.
