Good. A reason to get back into the darkroom. Well, not so much a reason as a project to focus on while I'm there.

I was thinking of doing a lith print (I took Tim Rudman's lith workshop last fall in Montana), but I'd never get 9 identical prints. My back yard is a carpet of leaves right now from the two mature Manchurian Ash trees. I might take the 4x5 out to capture the texture and shapes. I have a new (new to me) Rodagon 135/5.6 on its way. Good opportunity to put it to work:wink:

I did lith prints for a previous exchange. I think I needed 8 prints and it was impossible to get that many to be identical as the dev is constantly changing. I think I made about 16 prints to get 8. There was still some variation but I thought they each looked OK.

As long as each individual print is acceptable to you to send, it will be acceptable to receive since we don't sit around comparing prints!

Basic prints are made. I'll get them toned sooner rather than later, perhaps tomorrow. Should be able to get them to Andy by month's end.

I made test prints on Tuesday on two different papers. Left them to dry and will have a look on the weekend, hopefully the decision process will be straightforward.

Prints will be in the mail tomorrow:wink:, which reminds me of a little joke: What are the world's three greatest lies?

1. Your cheque (prints) is (are) in the mail.
2. I'm from the government; I'm here to help.
3. Yes, I will respect you in the morning.

I was in the darkroom this afternoon and evening; processed some 4x5 film and then made a contact print of an 8x10 neg I processed yesterday. Was hunting around for some paper to print it on and found a pack of Adox MCC so I used that. It reminded me what a nice paper it is - shame we can't buy it retail in Australia. I counted how many sheets were left in the pack, and there were 8 plus a few test strips, so I decided to have a go at the print for the exchange. We are making 8 prints, aren't we? Normally I would make a few extra as insurance against any prints ending up unusable, particularly considering I will probably be selenium toning and spotting later. Anyway I liked how the image looked on the paper (after not linking it on two other papers) so I decided to live dangerously and use the Adox. The prints went through with no problems, now I will see how they look on the weekend to decide about toning.

If you were in Melbourne Mike I could help you out with some of this paper. If I am to post off today who knows how long before you'd get it.

Guess I had better pull my finger out.......still can't decide which neg to use

decisions, decisions.........

I have a simple philosophy about decisions: if the right one isn't clear, then it really doesn't matter which choice you make as long as you give it your best shot:smile: I spent years teaching decision making skills and this is what I came up with (that and a t-shirt:cool:)

Thanks for the thought but I wouldn't want to put you to the trouble anyway. The problem was that I didn't go to the darkroom to print for the exchange but did it on the spur of the moment. I suppose 8 was the number of the last exchange.
