We are moving into my father-in-laws house. He passed last November and we need to keep his business going so we have to move there.

He was an avid 35mm photographer. It suited his antsy style. He always got vocally impatient as I waited for the "light" with my LF stuff. Anyway, I never saw him shoot with anything but a 35-80 Tokina zoom. He loved those Tokina lenses. they gave him the look he wanted at a not high price. Having never used one I will take his word for it.

A week ago I found his camera case but never got into it because we were moving so many things. My wife brought it home and I was surprised at what was in it, all brand new, and never used. 300mm 5.6, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 80mm, as well as a few different view finders for his Pentax camera. I wonder why he never used them? I think I'm going to have to load up some film and shoot some shots in his memory.

What a great and memorable find! And you never know, maybe you'll fall in love with 35mm! If you need somone to take the lenses off your hands, well.....

These items aren't going anywhere. My sons 2 and 6 will probably get these items a long time from now.

We also found were he put the photos after he had them developed. Stacks upon stacks of images as well as at least one completely full suitcase and one half full dresser drawer. It will take years to go through it all. If anyone wants a visual history of the Page Lake Powell area from 1980 to now we got your research material.

Maybe he just loved the 35 to 80 Tokina so much that he didn't feel the need to use the prime lenses, and maybe he was a bit of a collector also, and that's why the primes were not being used. I'm sure there are plenty of people here on APUG who shoot a lot but also have other lenses which never even get touched.

why film will always be better

And this is why film will always have a place in my heart (and my camera bag). 40 or 50 years from now when my daughter is cleaning out my house she's going to find boxes of negatives, slides and cd-roms. If the cd's are anything other than shiny coasters, I'll be truly surprised but, she'll be showing her kids her history and mine by whatever light shines into the room and through the film.

Great find!
