A neat tool I happened upon for fixing bent front flanges of lenses:

Very nice! Looks like it can do the job. Providing you can torque the nut, without stripping it out.
Let us know if it can straighten bent filter rings.

I assume it will leave shiny marks on the inside of the threads and will not get rid of the crinkle in the outer finish.

But my goal when faced with filter ring dents, has always been to get filters on and get back to shooting...

This tool and others like it will make it so the filter mounting is useful again. They will not refinish damaged parts.

Price is nice, but $20 shipping (granted, from China) is a deterrent.

Micro-tools has a similar device, but every time I've checked over the past year it's been "temporarily out of stock".

There are a couple of versions by different sellers. Some may have less expensive shipping.
There is also one with a T handle so the wrench isn't needed.

I have a half circle of oak and use a small hammer to tap the wood. I have fixed several Yashica GSN's that way but it does leave a slight crinkle out the outside. But filters fit with no problems.

if i were to have designed the tool I guess i probably would have used finer threads so you could accommodate a higher torque load across the tool... a bit hit and miss too - to insist on using 'cloth' on the inside of the flange when you've got such aggressive threads cut in the bearing surface of the tool itself. I bet it really mangles up the threads or they wouldn't have cut them and THEN suggested using the cloth... just speculating of course - seems reasonable though...

Brain with informational vacuum needs knowledge... are all filters threaded with a standard thread pitch. And so is the tool providing a matching thread where it will press on the threads?

To be most effective force must applied from the outer side of the rim too.

This greatly depends on the smoothness of tool thread and the quality of ist chromium coating.
