Hello:

Does anyone have a information or knowledge of the Minolta X-700 DL, and how it contrasts
with the standard X-700?

Thanks,

To me, it looks like someone put their initials on a piece of rubber/plastic, and stuck it on the body. Looks like some type of heat mold (leather around the 'DL' doesn't look right) was used in applying or making it. In my humble opinion, it doesn't look like anything genuine from Minolta, and I would be weary of the claim by the seller of improved electronics. I searched everything out there, including photo mags from the era, and there isn't one mention of a DL version. I would ask the seller for a reference to his claim of improved electronics. So basically what I'm saying is he's selling a camera with someone's initials on it for a premium.

Kirks: I believe your theory is probably correct! The "DL" looks thin and cheap, and being positioned in a gripping area, certainly would soil quickly; although the painted "MPS" looks pretty cool.

Thanks for your perspective and reply. This model has never been mentioned anywhere I have done any reading about Minolta recently or over the past 30 years.

I sold brand new X-700's back in the day. I have never heard of a DL model.

The "DL" was Donald L's (not giving his last name) initials. He sold several different cameras at the DFW shows during the mid 2000's badged "DL".. They are nothing more than original Minolta X-700's..

What -- he thought that buyers would be so impressed to have purchased a camera from him that they would want his initials on it? Amazing.

He would convince some people that the camera was a special edition. The more experienced did not fall for it but the younger ones would sometimes fall for it..

He even had a "DL" version Leica IIIf on DFW craigslist several years ago.. Don't know if it sold though... He got fancy with that one by using a brass stamped out circle with "DL" in it..

Haven't heard anything from him since..
