We have been hearing more and more interest in something paper for CIM. However, it is not in place yet. David and I are planning to offer you folks to be able to purchase a quarterly paper version of the .pdf content along with a little something special to up the ante, so to speak. We should have an idea of what we will do with this in time to announce it in the March issue of the .pdf. Feel free to download and print out the .pdf's in the meantime. That's what they are there for.

I would prefer to purchase a CD version of the magazine rather than deal with more paper.

Well, the reason we are going with a paper version is that someone else house's the files and prints a book on demand by an individual. So we don't have to pay for a bunch up front and then try to sell them to recoup the investment. Right up our alley at this point. The reason we're not doing a CD is because it would be really cheesy and no more technically involved than what you could do from your own PC with a halfways decent CD burner. Might be an option down the road. But any of our viewers are free to do just that, hence the free download form the Lulu storefront.

Hello Don,

Chris is right that we have no plans to offer a CD with the magazines on, and that you could certainly download and burn your own - but if you would like a CD of the magazines (or a particular article from the website), PM me and we'll have a chat.

If you are unable to burn your own CD for any reason then I'm willing to burn you a CD, but there would be a small charge for my time and shipping over to the US. PM me if you are interested.

Thank you,
David.

Good on ya, Chris! I've bookmarked your website.

I can think of at least one, maybe two magazines that still cater primarily to film users: View Camera and Rangefinder. I haven't seen a copy of the latter in quite some time, so I don't know if they're still in business. But VC is.

Best,

Michael

Yeah, I was able to pick up the latest issue of VC. Major Alt Process issue. I like it. Gives me ideas. My wife hates it. Gives me ideas. ;P

Sorry to disappoint, but take Rangefinder off your list.

Thanks to a suggestion from a reader of CiM, I've just put up an RSS feed that you can subscribe to on the main website. If you subscribe to it, it'll be used to inform you when new articles appear, when the PDF magazine is available (as well as any magazine specials like the upcoming March edition dedicated to glass plate photography).

Agreed. One of the professors at U Akron leaves his free copy out for the students. I have read through a few issues and don't remember any reference to film, though oddly enough there was an aticle about wet plate 6-8 months ago.

Good job David, Christopher and Rob. I have been perusing the sight all morning and spent the weekend reading the articles from the magazine. I can't tell you how excited I am as an artist, who is relatively new to the camera to have this information at my disposal. Such valuable information as a great learning tool. I subscribe to several mags but I especially like your's for its technical flavor, that I can't get anywhere else.

Again, thanks, and I wish you all the luck with this VERY important endeavor. Keep up the good work.

Yes, please....

I would also like to see & pay for a monthly/quarterly subscription to CIM... I too find it easier to access magazines that I can carry around and don't have to access via PJF format. If anyone knows of any other film magazines that are available via subscription in print please let me know.

Thanks!

Sorry to say CiM has not been since Jan of 2010.

vc is still around ...

This is true, although I cant fully agree with the characterization of it as catering primarily to film users. Perhaps technically, since all you need is 51% film content to fit that bill. I was a faithful subscriber going way back, but I stopped subscribing then I stopped buying occasional issues off the new stand because there was so much digital content, 100% of which doesn't interest me. Why should I buy something for the same price as before when it has less of what I want? But I almost bought this month's issue, which seems to be nearly digital free, but it will take more than one issue like that to win my money back.

Though it is most likely scorn-worthy, knowing the APUG crowd, technically Light Leaks mgazine - largely catered toward the Lomography/Toy Camera niche, Dead Link Removed - deals with film exclusively. I've never seen it in stores, but at Barnes and Noble, I've picked up B&W magazine as well as View Camera.

I think that a small but enthusiastic market is definitely there for a film-based magazine. Not only are there tons of APUG users, but it was also the subject of some recent talk on the Film Photography Podcast.

Agreed with VC and the digi. Although, they still have some good technical meterial and have provided a lot of inspiring photography, from what I have actually been able to see of it.

My comments re VC apply to B&W as well. I was so happy when I found that mag. That lasted a year or so, then my elation deflated along with analog photos per dollar spent. You'd think there would be a market for another Emulsion but nobody is brave enough to take the leap.
