I've been "one of those people" for well over a decade now. You know the type...a habitual lurker quietly syphoning off knowledge and wisdom from people on these forums.
Well, I'm trying to do better, finally. I officially joined up here at Photrio a couple months ago and will be making a concerted effort to be contribute more to the community when I can.
For those interested, I was a fairly extensive voice in the photo-education community for the better part of the past 10 years, being a staff writer for Digital Photography School and co-founder/head developer at Contrastly.com, as well as being a freelance author and creator/consultant for a host of other websites, entities, and publications. I have hundreds of articles scattered about the corners of the internet. I have, however, broken off from that world to a large extent in the last couple years, becoming what some might consider a sort of photographic anti-hero in many respects.
Photography and it's peripheral madnesses are quite literally my life and have been for close to thirty years now in one capacity or another. I was once a "real" person with a respectable career in healthcare (radiography) for 12 years but left that behind 7 years ago to pursue my writing, photo-work, and general debauchery full time. In October of 2022, I final snapped my twig and decided to sell my house, converted my 4Runner into a camper, and whisked me and my dog (Leia) onto the road to see just what all is out there to photograph as fully committed dirtbags.
My work revolves around a blazing sun that is 99.9% non-digital and historical processes. I shoot primarily medium format film (6x6,6x12), 8x10 large format film, and am currently anxiously awaiting the completion of my first ULF 11x14 camera via Richard Ritter which will likely usher me into the realm of dry and wet plate. Of course, I travel with my scanner but also contact print in silver-gelatin, cyanotype and soon salted paper within my traveling darkroom/bar made from a converted ice fishing hut lovingly named "The Hive."
I'm not sure of the etiquette for sharing links but you can find me in the all the usual greasy places around the web like YouTube, Instagram, Medium, ect., as "Adam Welch Photographist." Additionally, a Google search of my name will likely yield nuggets of deeper information such as my multiple books and other questionable ventures should you be sick enough...I mean...inclined to learn more about me. Honestly, after reading through this little post, I figure you folks officially already know more about me than most people in the world...which is terrifying.
I look forward to being a larger presence within this community which I have learned so much from over the years. Leia and I are happy to be here.
